Akbar  AR Rupee (24mm, 11.32 g, 2h). Patna mint. Dated Ilahi year 44 (AD 1597/8), month of Tir. KM 93.14.
A recent addition to my collection of Akbar's coinage. I loved the broad nazarana style flan of this rupee along with the simple yet beautiful arrangement of the legend. To keep the discussion going any ideas why these coins were stuck on a broader flan than usual?

Thanks

Oh! Beautiful! Great coin Bhushan! Wish someone answers ur question as I have the same query.. Why are some coins made with larger flan?? Are these Nazarana coins?? Were Nazarana coins common in Akbar times as compared to later mughals and princely states?? Were these coins minted for special occasions???
Hope to get answers from seniors soon..
