I had a very good time meeting with Amit ji, Ajay ji, and Abhishek ji.  Thank you all, especially Abhishek, for organizing and attending.  Our meeting and lunch more than makes up for the coin show disaster.  Abhishek showed us some of his recent acquisitions; he is building up a great collection.
Defending this hobby against a disapproving family since 1998.

Meeting with Amitji, Ajayji and Avik was wonderful.. Chatted for a good 3 hours or so on coins and everything we could share.. I had brought some of my recent aquisition and everyone appreciated them.. Also small tips on conservation and cleaning followed.. Had a hearty lunch courtesy Ajayji.. All in all it was better than trolling in the crowd at the exhibition after the biggest flop shows I've seen!

It as Abhik, Abhishek, Ajay and Amit.............Did not realise all four names started with an A.

Unfortunately my name does not starts with A.... so the 'A listers' conspired with my boss to keep me away from the exhibition    ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.

I hope all members with the names starting with A had a gala time...unable to see your pic..pls post it once again...  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

The lesson is clear. Even if the coin show is a mega-flop, meeting other members is a wonderful opportunity. Delhi has shown that it can be done. Now, it's Mumbai's turn to get eight members (or four, if the show is cancelled >:D) together... ;)

Well as the proud mumbaikar that I am, and my penchant to have the last word, five of us met (albeit briefly) at one of the coin shows a couple years ago. So technically we bested Delhi (as Bombay usually does )  ;D

I am uploading a pic of recent get together of Delhi coin collectors. We met on a cold yet sunny morning. We talked about our hobby for hours. Then one of the collectors was kind enough to arrange lunch for all of us at a five star hotel.

As expected, Mumbaikars are always full of hot air. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.

Mumbai is also full of chaos, craziness, traffic jams, film-stars and bhai-logs  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

It does not have any history (was a fishermen's village few centuries back) , any geography (a strip of land so narrow that if you throw stones on either side, they will fall in Arabian Sea),  any culture (what to say!!),  any roads (oops just two roads - eastern & western express highway..sooo narrow that you can reach your destination early if you  leave your car and start walking), any metro (still struggling to adopt the success of Delhi Metro) or any airport (call a small landing strip with a rag tag terminal as airport)  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

No Delhite can ever tolerate any nonsense from a Mumbaikar ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D
Delhites are ready to fight tooth and nail for their honour  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Haha, I knew atleast one dilliwala would take exception to the capital's honor  ;D

That's amazing at the five star hotel  :o Rich and passionate coin collectors... Mumbaikars can't afford luxuries like that.... What can I say , we actually pay our taxes  :P :P >:D >:D ;D

A coin collector got one of the five star hotels to 'sponsor' the lunch for fellow collectors. Dilliwallahs are masters of freeby culture - be it free passes, free tickets or free lunch.  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D
I cant write all stuff here  (its a very juicy & interesting story) ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D.
Can however disclose the details on phone  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Very impressed with the picture, two dignified beards, five moustaches, 16 youngsters. Hope they will all join the fun here. Most impressed that there seems to be a free lunch after all and the disposable cups of the 5-star hotel ;) :D :D :D

Hi Peter!!!
It was an open air buffet lunch on the lawns of Delhi's Lalit Hotel... one of the food counters (red & white stripes) is visible in the background.

BTW just curious to know if you counted me amongst '16 youngsters' or amongst 'oldies'.  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D
I am the one on the extreme left with a plate.

akona20

I am hoping someone can arrange the same for me in late August. lol.

Figleaf

Just teasing. Since I saw only 16 faces, there wasn't much place for oldies. I have often enjoyed the camaraderie of coin collectors. Nothing like a joint interest to bring people together...
