I like your portrait better than that on the circulation coins, but I think you can find a better solution for the denomination and the date.

As for the Belgian personalities, I like your Magritte design. For some reason it seems to work better on the "silver" than on the "gold". What's missing, though, is the surrealist aspect. Maybe the picture of the Magritte museum may help.

Magritte liked to turn the familiar into something with a double bottom. The idea of the scene with the silhouettes running through the buildings is good, but can be improved, I think.

My favourite famous Belgian is Hendrik Conscience, the Harriet Beecher-Stowe of Belgium. Follow the link to discover this personality.

But I think that in such a case the copyright owner would have to OK the use of that painting, or any other of Magritte's works, on a coin. The Belgian Mint has done something like that before (Tintin coin) but still ...

By the way, the Royal Mint (UK) kind of borrowed some "Golconda" elements a while ago:

Not that I am into history, but these are other personalities already selected as main motif on Belgian commemorative euro coins:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Simenon
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justus_Lipsius

The coins themselves can be seen here:
