Need a suggestion

Hello,

I recently purchased UNC coins and unfortunately, one of them is really loose in the plastic capsule provided by the seller.

Since the coin is really loose in the capsule, it can move around and I am worried that any such movements will cause scrathes on the coins surface.

Please suggest how I can keep that coin or, if any, are there any ways I can make that coin tight in the capsule by filling up the empty space in the capsule? Otherwise, if I keep the coin out of the capsule, how do you suggest I keep it?

You can't fill up the empty space in capsule. (That may damage coin too)..Take the coin out of capsule if you are really so concerned and keep it in coin holder..

I have a great idea of creating a cotton padding on both sides of a small box but I first need to know if that is safe.

Will cotton attract moisture? The box I have closes nicely.

Oils in cotton are unsafe. Try elastic bands.

By elastic bands, do you mean these?

If yes, how can they be of any use?

Elastic bands (shown here) are likely to contain PVC. (In fact they will have PVC). Not recommended, unless Peter has something different in mind when he says 'elastic bands'.

Why are you so keen to keep the coins in the plastic capsule? Note that a bad quality capsule can be as dangerous as a bad quality holder.

If you are so adamant on keeping your coin in a capsule then why don't you buy a new capsule for your coin? I am sure you know the size of the coin you have purchased.

Note that these coin capsules are not available in all sizes. My observation is that they are only available in sizes which correspond to US coins and Euro coins (including collector coins), probably due to fact that they are more popular there..So you may not get the exact size casule for Indian/other world coins...

I am not very keen to keeping the coin in the capsule. I can keep the coin anywhere but I just want to keep the coin as safe as possible.

Also, Plastic capsules are not even easily available in India.

Yikes, if they contain PVC, they are out. I still live in times when they were made of rubber and not coloured. How behind the times can you get.

Anyway, anything that is softer than metal will not scratch metal.

Yes, Indian dealers do not keep these kind of capsules as there's no or little demand for these..I have seen some European dealers selling big lots of such capsules (1kg in a lot, different sizes) for $30 or so (3 cents a piece) which isn't a bad deal IMO, however I'm not a fan of capsules as their storage is a big problem...

Take it out, keep in cardboard/mylar 2x2 holder.  Otherwise send it to a professional grading service to be encapsulated.

In my experience elastic bands perish and decompose in about twelve months.

Getting it encapsulated from a grading service would cost more than the coin did itself and in my opinion, that is stupid.
