With 5k coin & 100k stamps  , C M A Tamilvanan is pitching for a place in the Guinness Book of World ............

There are many members at WOC who have coins in range of 30-45 K  real collectors.

Such articles are appearing in news paper regularly , unfortunately  doesn't  have any value addition for newbies to pursue or  promote this hobby .

Cheers ;D

I know a collector who has over 100,000 (100.000 in European terms ;)) coins in his collection..and his name is not in Guinness book yet. :D I don't see any reason to be happy because I have 'X' many coins..not at all important IMO.

One scrap trader has truck load  of coins in his stock ( approx 10 Tons)   ::) ::) , then he would be self styled winner & record holder of Guinness book ;) ;)

Buy 15 kg of old Indian 5 paisa aluminum coins and your name will be in Guinness book. >:D

BTW one of the very senior member of the forum from NL (need not mention his name) has an exceptionally extra ordinary collection of Indian coins (better than museum quality) which IS a feat and even Guinness book is not the place to record it! (Not in terms of quantity but quality and depth)

Agreed. It is the quality that counts, not the quantity. Moreover, the quality magically increases with the knowledge of the owner, though a fair degree of passion alone will also work miracles. Maybe that is one of the core atractions of collecting coins. It woks both in the emotion and in the knowledge department, but best when both departments are exercised.

I don't understand the need to be in The Guinness Book! These people probably are not genuine hardcore collectors if they only collect coins to be in the record book. The teenager who has 40,000 coins needs to be more interested in the history of the countries and the coins he has in his possession.  :(
