What gadgets and knowledge would make me professional coin collector,

1) magnifying lens
2) Wighing scales
3) vernier calipers

anything more?

None of the above, necessarily... 

Professional just means you do something for a living and not simply because you enjoy it. While being able to make a living from a given activity tends to imply a certain minimum level of skill, knowledge and competence, it is not a given that 'professionals' are 'better' than 'amateurs'.

An interesting question.

There is a necessity to protect yourself in any market.

So we have a magnifying glass generally one of 3X and one of around 10X
We have a set of scales. Electronic ones are very accurate and very cheap thee days.
Vernier Calipers, electronic, are also very cheap these days.

So this is the basis of equipment.

You need research material of course and books can cost more than the coins but the interent is quite good for finding things.

I have never believed in placing older hand struck coins in any holder other than museum quality small envelopes 9same goes for machine struck) and cotton gloves if you wish to handle the coins.

A computer program for listing the collection is great.

Are professionals better than amateurs? One hopes so but given that Ansari has found an unbelievable error in an auction from a major auctioneer, who knows!

The auction site was advised and they have removed the Mughal coin which was wrongly attributed.

Buy some books before the coins

Good advice, SCM. While you are at it, don't buy only a catalogue, also get a book on the (financial) history of the country/period you want to collect.
