Timothy Noad, coin designer

Timothy Noad is an English artist who has studied at the Reigate School of Art and Design (East Surrey College, England), Birkbeck College (University of London), and the Courtauld Institute of Art. He holds qualifications in the History of Art, and as well as in Calligraphy, Heraldry and Illumination. He was elected Fellow of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators in 1993 and of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society in 2001.

Timothy designed the reverse of UK sovereign of 2005.

It depicted his own artistic interpretation of St George and the Dragon.

Timothy also designed the reverses of first of the new series of UK pound coins, released in 2013.






The design celebrating England depicts a rose, oak leaves and an acorn.






The design for Wales shows two of the principality's national emblems, a daffodil and a leek.
