I recently purchased this 10 Tola silver bar from the HM Mint Bombay and distributed by Devkaran Nanjee. I bought this since there was the original receipt of it's purchase from the same distributor. How cool is that!

It showed that the rate of silver was 9 annas to a tola and the 10 tola bar itself was purchased for Rs 5-10 in 1938.

I was intrigued since the Indian Rupee coins even in 1938 were of tola weight and 90% silver, and so logically a tola of pure silver should cost 14-1/2 annas. Even accounting for a premium for the bar, it should not cost more than 15 annas. It shows how strong the Rupee was (or how cheap the silver was) at that time.

Just for your information, Devkaran Nanjee was later converted to DENA Bank.

Just compare your bar with the current Logo of the Bank. Goddess Laxmi is the same.

Yeah...I had read that before but forgotten.  :P Thanks for reminding me.

I do not know how scarce these are. I have one extra and want to know if I should keep it with me or sell.

Here is another 5 Tola one which I pictured today.
