Sporrong Stockholm tokens with G K
« on: November 28, 2012, 04:09:15 PM »
A while back I remember reading a thread somewhere here regarding Swedish tokens produced by Sporrong with connection to Stockholm but with no clear evidence of what they were for, with the initials G K. It was speculated that they might be car park tokens.

This current listing on Tradera suggests that G K stands for Gatukontoret, the local highways authority which handles street maintenance, snow clearing etc.

What it doesn't say is what the tokens were for, though they could be for parking meters.

I think someone posted a similar token with some other initialism on it -- I can't remember what this was, though the second letter was K, which undoubtedly is short for kontor(et), or office.

See this post.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
