The lion motif that you see at the top left of the Singapore 1 dollar coin (2013) appears in the same position on the rest of the coins in the design series.

Not the same beasties, as you probably already suspected. Above is a lion in traditional Chinese style but without cub or ball, not mythical or heraldic or national, but symbolic (Singa-pura - lion city.) Below a merlion, a lion with a fish tail, mythical, heraldic (it is used as shield holder in Portsmouth) and - in the case of Singapore - national but even in Portsmouth it doesn't symbolise the Mary Rose. ;)
