South African token, Premier
« on: August 03, 2008, 11:55:58 PM »
This one is really shiny, so hard to scan.

At 0.5 gr., 16.0 mm this is probably aluminium. Both sides are the same. I found a Premier Mine in Transvaal, near Johannesburg, but I am wondering about the E.C.S. part of the legend.

I have another token of this series and I'll add the pic, since it is different, but it also gives clues about the E.C.S. I think this is a canteen token.

Same company and metal. I think the hole was made to cancel this piece. Both sides are the same. On this token, the legend is EMP.CO-OP.Ltd. This leads me to believe that the E.C.S. on the previous token could have been for Emporium Co-operative Society.

The two tokens here would seem to be the exact same two types that I have for this issuer.

The hole on the larger piece was made so as to (purposefully) change a 20/- to a 2/-  (a 20 Shilling to a 2 Shilling).

You are correct about E.C.S.

Thanks Mr Paul Baker
