I'd like to know if this is officially issued numisbrief or yet another private issue like Austrian one I posted few days back..

I have couple of more German numisbriefe to show in case anybody is interested. :)

Don't know anything substantial about such Numisbrief issues. :)  But what is kind of strange is the combination: The coin was issued in 1969 by the Federal Republic (back then "West Germany"), and the stamp was issued in 1970 by Deutsche Bundespost Berlin (ie. the postal service in West Berlin). However, the date stamp says 30 December 1991 (Fontane's birthday), and is from Neuruppin.

Now Fontane was born in Neuruppin, not far from Berlin. But at the time when the coin and the stamp were issued, Neuruppin was a town in the GDR ("East G."). The date stamp is from the short period (between Oct-1990 and the end of June 1993) when the GDR had already joined the Federal Republic but the two separate post code systems were still in use ...

Thanks Christian, I did feel suspicious when I got it. I didn't have this coin in my collection (I do not collect pre euro German coins with great interest though) and price I paid wasn't much so I'm not disappointed. I'll be more careful next time onwards.. :)

Just noticed that this seller http://www.muenzauktion.com/schimmer/item.php5?id=10629 wants €30 for the Fontane Numisbrief. Maybe it was a (semi-)official issue? Sorry, I have no idea. :-\

€30? Wow, I paid little above €7 for my specimen. :)

I have one more numisbrief from Germany and I'm 200% sure it's a private issue because it comes with a Third Reich commemorative. :D (Will post images tomorrow)

Thanks again Christian! 8)

I'm hesitant to comment about authenticity of this particular  PNC , but recently I got opportunity to see 1000s of PNC  from various countries .

Upon checking with dealers they said usually they are collectors stuff not officially issued , only if collector want particular stamps or coins they buy .

Further novice collectors also like to have PNC this was reliable feedback IMO.

Cheers ;D
