It sounds like the 50 Paise coin is now an extremely scarce coin.
;D
Not scarce, but difficult to find.Commemorative coins never circulate in my part of country (i.e in Mumbai),but I also haven't found any of these regular issues in circulation here (even the nickel brass 5 Rupees, the bimetallic issues),which is surprising and frustrating. The only coins we find here are those boring 'Natya Mudra'  issues, and quite a few times, the cross 2 Rupees coins (but no cross 1 Rupee coins) :'(

Magically, I received a 50 paise, 2009, coin over the weekend. It was smuggled out of India at great cost.   I attempted to locate its catalog number and can not. Is it Km # 69?
What does the clinched fist represent?  A dance mudra or a cricket gesture?  We play a hand gesture game here called "Paper, rocks and scissors".  The clinched fist represents the rock.  I think that they have a similar game in Java and there the fist represents the elephant.  What about India?

Like a lot of coins released recently in India, this one too is as yet not listed by Krause. There are coins from 2006 that are not listed yet, so I think we have a while to go before this one will get catalogued by Krause.

Paper, rocks and scissors is known in this part of the world too :) And a clenched fist is not yet part of cricket - that most gentlemanly of games where players are known to slap their opponents from time to time but thankfully the fist hasn't made an appearance - yet.

In the traditional Bharatnatyam, "Mudras" or hand guestures are used to signify something.

This symbile is known as "Shikhara" and denotes one of; An Armour, A Bow, A Pillar, Making offering to Manes, Upper lips, A tooth, Questioning, Saying No, Recollection, Pulling a griddle, An act of embracing, Sounding of Bells, Drinking. In the Indian numismatic world, it now also means 1 Rupee.

This is the symbol used for two rupee coins is known as "Kartarimukha". According to Mr Google, they signify among other things A Scissors, Separation of a couple, Opposition, Looting, To show two different things, Corner of an eye, Death, Lightning, Sleeping, Falling an Weeping and Creeper.

This is the symbol used on the coin you managed to get your hands on. This denotes Grasping objects, Combative position of the wrestlers, Steady fastness of a person. This hand guesture is known as "Mushthi"

In the Netherlands, the first gesture can also mean good, good taste, nice, or victory (Roman origin), the second most often means, "look at the shadow of my hand on the wall, it looks like a rabbit" and the third means "make a favorable comment on my bracelet (new dress, figure, new hairdo) or face the consequences. It won't be pretty". :)

Thanks MS and thanks Figleaf.
Is there any truth to the rumor that India will produce the following Mudra in a 20 rupee bi-metalic coin?
I understand that it means "Your vitality is an inspiration".  I used to recieve it often from cycle rickshaw drivers in Delhi. I guess I made quite an impression.

I found a 50 Paise 2008 with a Hyderbad mint mark. First one I have seen so far.

I have 2008 Noida and Calcutta,  2009 Bombay. Anyone seen any other mint marks for 2009?

Aditya, if you find an extra, then it would be a great help. I never have seen this 1997 in circulation ever, only the other 50P FSS ones generally which I can find even now. The newer hand mudra 50P coins are available in circulation at times.
