Are you sure its a star? I thought only Noida did the 2006,2007,2008 bimetallic coins.

You must have a pretty neat collection of Indian coins among the rest of the coins that you collect. I saw a Zim 750,000 note on your gallery. I heard they are going to print a 100 trillion dollar note now. I don't collect notes, but I would love to own those.

MS
You are right MS.Only Noida mint struck the bimetallic coins. However the dot (mint mark of Noida mint) appears like a star.
And Zimbabwe has already issued the 100 Trillion dollar note (Which is no more in use).If you are really interested in getting the full set of these high denominated banknotes, drop me a PM,perhaps one of my friend (who actively collects banknotes) could help you.(I do not collect banknotes.)

M.S.,
I double checked,& there are 5 points on the mintmark.

Zimbabwean notes are pretty popular. There was a new issue early this year, but it didn't last long in circulation. The $750,000 note is the strangest denominated note that I have, next to the strange denominations of some postal orders.

Aidan.

MS

Aidan,

Its strange that there are pointed marks on the coin. I crossed checked my 2007 and I notice it is also pointed. My 2008 coin is more interesting. I thought it was a Calcutta mint because it does not have any mint mark. Then KR and others told me that its been only minted in Noida. Since then I have examined the coin many times but I cannot spot even a faded MM. The 2008 date is also very close to the edge. Maybe its an error. I should upload an image of that coin.

M.S.,
The Star mintmark is on the 2006 'Cross' bimetallic 10 Rupees coin. The 2008 new design type has the Dot mintmark.

MS,
The 2007 10 Rupees coin is not so common. The mintage of 2005,2007,2008(cross variety) is restricted to a very small number, you will not find these 3 dates in circulation.I bought the 2007 coin for 50 each in last fair.2005 is much scarce.
And the dot on the 2008 coin is located just above the edge and can not be seen easily in most of the cases. It's not an error, though.

I have '06, '07 and '08. I know a couple of guys who have 2005 but they paid a much higher premium.

2008 is being issued here @ RBI, Bangalore, 10 coins at a time. I went there a couple of weeks back and the queues were mind boggling and I returned empty handed.

Couple of days back I spoke to the paanwallas in the neighborhood. 10 Rupee coins are looked upon with more suspicion as its not well advertised or well known. This guy I spoke to had 2 2008 coins he received as payment, accepted and promptly set aside as a souvenir.

Aidan,
As far as I know, 50 Paisa coins in this series have not been issued. That said, the Indian Mints have been springing surprises regularly these days. Rs 10 coins of 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 were all issued recently. This Rs 5 issue is also dated 2007. You would never know if they had these coins stacked up somewhere and issue it later. However, I have seen and got the 50 Paisa Nitrya Mudra coin issued some time back.

Amit

Amit,
Thanks for keeping us informed about the 'Cross' 50 Paise & 5 Rupees.

I haven't got the Nitriya Mudra 50 Paise at all so far.

Satyameva Jayate is literally translated as 'Truth alone prevails'. It is such an irony that on the new coins Satyameva Jayate is not clear.

Aidan,
These new 50 Paise coins (Natyamudra) hardly circulate..I just have one piece (which my Mom got in change a few months ago)There mintage is restricted to few millions (don't know why ::)) and dealers have grabbed this 'opportunity'  >:( So there are no chances that they will ever circulate (at least here)...

Yes, in my place too. Hoarded about 70-80 coins so far from circulation. No 2009 dated 50p coins yet circulating here.

You have a distinct advantage Rony. You are in a business where you deal with a lot of coins. The only coins I get are loose change from the shops. No hoard for me, just a couple of duplicates  8)

My business helps me get all denominations in coins except the 50 paise coin. A few friendly 'Paanwaalahs' are my main source for 50p coins and I also buy circulated coin bags for a little premium over face from coin exchangers.

I have no problem with sending these coins to you,Aidan. However,if compared to their face value,I'll have to overpay for the shipping charges, which are not so cheap, you know :(
Drop me a PM if you want me to 'buy' something for you at the coin show this weekend. :)
