From our member Pabitra Saha:

India has reintroduced 50 paise coin after a gap of several years.

Pending issue of new design, Noida mint has produced 50 paise of old design (KM#69) with year 2007.Earlier, it was last minted in 2003. So you can include that as a year of issue in your records.

Emotionally, I am all in favor of keeping the 50 paisa coin.  But a 1/84th of a dollar, I should think that the metal would be worth far more than the stated value of the coin.  What do you think Peter; more coins being shipped to Bengladesh to be melted down?

Unless you and a few other collectors are prepared to pay more than the Bangladeshis...

A fundraiser to keep the 50 paisa from being melted down?  :P  It is NOT going to happen.

KM# 69 was minted by both Calcutta and Noida mint in 2007. This new design 2008 50 paise as far as I know was minted by Calcutta and Noida mint and maybe Bombay mint (I can't confirm).

Thanks, KR. Plop, it goes on the want list :)

Right as usual KR. I can confirm #69 2007(C) and 2007(N). I also have 50p new design for 2008(C) and (N). Tragically, I have not seen a 2003 #69 of any mint variety :( - EVER

Found this in circulation today, a 2009 Bombay mint 50 paise coin. Makes me wonder if there is a 2008 Bombay after all?

Lonsharim,
That's very cool. The only 2009 coin from India I have got in my collection is a 2009 Diamond brass 5 Rupees, which Aditya sent me with the 2005 Diamond Dandi March steel 5 Rupees, the 2007 Diamond 5 Rupees, the 2006 Star bimetallic 'Cross' 10 Rupees,& the 2008 Dot bimetallic 10 Rupees just over 3 weeks ago.It arrived over here in New Zealand within a week from being posted in Bombay.

the 2006 Star bimetallic 'Cross' 10 Rupees
Aidan.

Are you sure its a star? I thought only Noida did the 2006,2007,2008 bimetallic coins.

You must have a pretty neat collection of Indian coins among the rest of the coins that you collect. I saw a Zim 750,000 note on your gallery. I heard they are going to print a 100 trillion dollar note now. I don't collect notes, but I would love to own those.
