Bengal Presidency: Shumsheri Rupee, Allahabad mint, AH 1216, Frozen RY 26 of Shah Alam II (AD 1801/2). Persian couplet citing name and titles of Shah Alam; sword in field and fish. Though the coin has some minor dark areas I was more than excited to lay my hands on this very rare issue of EIC. Unpublished in Pridmore and described as a Mughal issue(KM#586) in KM I think there is an article by Paul Stevens on this issue which I have not been able to find. Please let me know what you think of this issue and its rarity.
Share pics if you have one.

Thanks

Very nice and good coin to have in your collection. They are certainly hard to get but have seen a few appear in the last couple of years (as is the case with many other rare coins!). My example is AH 1215 and will have to get to it to picture.  :)

Can Bhushan and Repindia get into the history of these rupees.. I love these transition mints. They have lovely and interesting stories behind them

Thanks Vikram. Please do post a pic of your coin as these have some intresting mint marks on them for different years. As for the apprence of new coins I have seen only one other coin offered in the past couple of years.

Abhishek, my searches for information on this coin has come up with no information accept for the reference on the Baldwins "Coins of India" website.
There is an article by Paul Stevens "Coins of the ceded and conquered provinces of the Bengal Presidency – the Farrukhabad mint," ONS 190 (Spring 2007), pp. 37-42 which I have seen referenced to this coin by one of the auction houses. I do not have access to this article. I guess we will have to wait for Oesho to shed more light.

Congrats! I have posted a different variety of this rupee. I think the sword remains constant but the second mark changes with year.
