Czech National Bank issues 10,000-crown gold coin

PRAGUE, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) — The Czech National Bank (CNB) has issued a gold coin with a nominal value of 10,000 crowns (about 500 U.S. dollars) to mark the 800th anniversary of the Golden Bull of Sicily, a key document from the medieval history of Bohemia and Moravia, CNB spokesman Marek Petrus said.

The coin, designed by Jaroslav Beyvl, features a seal of Frederick II along with the Czech Lands' heraldic animals. A scene on the overleaf shows a symbolic handover of the bull to then Czech sovereign Premysl Otakar I.

It is the first of the three extraordinary series of 10,000-crown gold coins that the CNB plans to issue between 2011 and 2015 to mark important anniversaries.

Irrespective of its nominal value, the coin's price will depend on factors such as the current price of gold and on its production costs. (1 crown = 0.05 U.S. dollar)
