Nice coin Joseph! I love the design of the reverse. The 1947 Rupee is a one year type for British India and the only British India Rupee coin issued from 1835-1947 that contained no silver. Pridmore states that its composition is "pure" nickel coin.  However, I find that odd as nickel is an alloy and there are variations of what goes into the nickel alloy so you technically cannot have "pure" nickel. However, I think he meant to differentiate it from the copper-nickel.

These coins were issued from Lahore (41 million) and Bombay (118 million). The Lahore coin has no mint mark while the Bombay has a diamond under the date.

A correction needed here. Nickel is not an alloy, but a pure chemical element, much like Copper, Silver and Gold.

Abhay - yes you are right! Thanks for your correction. I Need to read my periodic tables periodically! So the 1947 IS a pure nickel coin!

Yes these issues were of nickel. Easy to confirm, since nickel is magnetic as well, and alloys of nickel are not.
