@josephjk

MWM thanks for starting this thread and Harry thanks for pointing out the lower mintage dates - found a 1944 Lahore at the local coin show this morning - the coin looks like crud but I was happy to find one. Oh and before anyone asks $1 ;D

Crud? The ornaments in the corners have suffered from wear, but the rest of the design is clear. Great value for money. Keep it until 2044 and it's antique and the Indian government will fold itself in pretzels over it. >:D

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

 ;D ;D ;D Figleaf - I better not go back for a while...the coin looks a lot better in hand. I was a little surprised by the picture but a picture does not lie

Yes Abhishek the 1939B is scarce although I think the 1939C is also as scarce.  Interesting that the privy mark for the Bombay mint for the KGVI 2 Anna was placed on the left and right of the date, I guess there wasn't enough space below the date to put a dot/bead or diamond.

KM gives a value of $25 for 1939B 2 anna while $15 for 1939C 2 anna in UNC.. The difference in pricing is quite significant!! Personally I have seen fewer 1939B 2 annas than 1939C ones.. Any good dealer would have 1939 2 annas and it would be in all probability a 1939C 2 annas, I have seen very few dealers offering 1939B..

I just checked my square coin collection, and I have a 1939 Bombay, but not as nice as this one.

you should plan a trip to india most of your scarce coins are available here for under 5 dollars for non silver and if u insist on fdc coins the rates will go up but there are plenty to be had in fdc quality for most coins in the non silver gold series
