Quite an impressive set! Do you know which years are most difficult to get in this series and in this grade?

Thanks Harry. What do you think about their grades?
I think 1939 is the difficult year to get. Then 1945 is also little scarce. Atleast that is what the dealer told me. And 1944 Lahore is the Most difficult I guess. Harry do you have the mintage data? That will help. :)

The Oracle

how much did you pay for them?

Here are the mintage numbers for the King George VI , 2 Anna coin.

Some interesting points about this series:

1.   2 Anna were produced in Copper Nickel from 1939 to 1941 from 1942-1945 the composition changed to Nickel-Brass and in 1946-47 it switched back to copper nickel. This is why there are distinct color differences between these coins,  the copper nickel have a silver color while the nickel brass is golden.
2.   The Lahore mint produced the 2 Anna from 1944 to 1947. However, there are only two dates that appears on the coin 1944 (nickel-brass) and 1946 (coper-nickel), so both are frozen dates. The 1944 coin has four L on each corner of the coin, while the 1946 has no mint mark but has diamond shape test marks on the coin. This is the way to distinguish the 1946C from 1946L as the Calcutta mint never had a mint mark too.

So @MWM check your 1946 coin closely to see if there are any tiny diamond shape test mark on the coin, typically on the obv next to the King's neck. If you can find one that means that its from Lahore.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Harry for the effort. It will help all the members.
I think my 46 coin has some test mark. Don't know if it is diamond or not but there is test mark for sure. Please see the image i have circled it.

Nice coins. From Harry's statement the coins before 1941, and 1944L, 1945c, 1947b are scarce. Lahore minted these coins between 1944 and 1947 but the last date appears only as 1946. Further Harry has nicely mentioned about Lahore MM. Mint marks of Calcutta no mark, Bombay a small dot before and after the date.
Happy collection

The Oracle

depends on if you want to call a mintage of 5 crores scarce i dont think he has used the term

sdchaugule

Not termed as scarce all these coins.  Their total is even more that  5 crores. Coins of certain years are termed as scare
