I have followed this story for quite some time.

My contention has always been that if such meticulous records were kept why were then were the the 10 coins not found to be missing at the time?

I await the transcript of the trial with some interest Perhaps a few more questions pertinent to the habits of the mint and new coins at the time could have been asked.
