Hi....

Reproduced below are the responses from eBay on my bringing to their notice some fakes.....but after these I gave up this exercise  as it was pointless as there were numerous fakes...and I thought I will be wasting my time going after them....

First complaint.....

Hi

Item No. 120704748957....Sai Baba Half Anna East India Company Copper
Coin...by saintisidoreofseville .

This is a fraudulent as date of issue of the coin by East India Company
is stated as 1717(see images)......
See the attached Wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sai_Baba_of_Shirdi
which states the probable date of birth as some where in 1838..
Then how can the East India Company issue a coin in 1717....
This indeed is unethical....
Please investigate and take appropriate action so that buyers are not
cheated.

Another one....

Hi

Thanks for your quick response....Yet another fraudulent item no.
130503016412.... seller decibelsoftwares... 1717 EAST INDIA HALF ANNA
SAIBABA OM SHIVLING COIN @RS1......see images...the same reason on it being
fraudulent.....How can these people cheat gullible public......please take
stern action ...... or is Caveat emptor (Let the buyer beware) the policy
of eBay...I hope not...

Incidentally, Google search on eBay experiences of buyers throws up quite a few interesting comments.....

Further, Item No.280652350314 ....HALF ANNA SANJVANI HANUMAN 1818 EAST
INDIA COMPANY rare.... seller manojyarashi

Incidentally, I have read that East India Company never minted coins
with Indian deities on them, in that era we had silver coins of William
IV and Queen Victoria, and some copper coins had coat of arms on them,
apart from the king or queen.

Please look into such fraudulent listings.

Regards.

Dear Aarkay,

As they said you also please understand that they are here to make money and it doesnt matter what sellers sell on ebay. All they want to do is to earn profit.

Please understand that no matter how many times you write to their customer care Department you will get the reply in the same standard template.

Please understand that there is no point in banging your head against the wall.  :D

Personally I feel you did a fantastic job and I appreciate your actions and emotions.  :)
Warm Regards,
Mackie

There are some members here on the forum akona & kansal and other who have had quite a bit of success in getting the fake items removed. I tried for quite few months, and finally give up ... initially flagging a fake was just few clicks, now they have made it more difficult ...

If you really want to remove those items from ebay, send me full details. BTW are sure that those are fakes???

From the few words of description in aarkay's letters, I am sure that the pieces he mentions are fantasies, recently made pieces. They are so easy to recognise that they should be disqualified automatically.

May I encourage you to communicate with kansal? He deserves respect for having succeeded in making eBay do more than send out form letters that don't resolve anything. May his experience lead to enough others putting pressure on eBay India to make them realise that their policy is untenable.
