The  Jallianwala Bagh massacre was another gruesome act which every student in India had studied in their history books.

I agree with Mayank and don't see any reasons , kids of today's age knows how to manage such things in smarter ways.

There are plenty of other things that can spoil kids and a coin design should be the last thing on that list.  :) :)

Cheers ;D

There was an excellent article written on this in a recent Royal Asiatic Society Journal.

Yes it was studied, but the books did not capture the gory pictures of people being shot and jumping in well ... there is a difference between reading something and seeing something ... especially on coins ... by that reasoning we could have had gory pictures on war of independence or bhagat singh coins ...

If I'm not wrong Bollywood had  released few  movies with this theme on several occasions. (Saheed Bhagat Singh  , Gandhi , Jallianwala Bagh massacre )

Thus it is inevitable that just by coin design innocent kids get influenced.

Further more today's terrorism (like attack on twin tower , Mumbai 26/11 and daily news of killings in Iraq /Syria ) can't be hidden from kids.

So such design of coins  least matter to any common  adults &  kids.

Cheers ;D

I have come across various international personalities like Bertrand Russell and Albert Einstein on Indian stamps but i haven't come across such personalities on Indian commemorative's except for Louie's Braille, so is there any chance of these prominent personalities on Indian commemorative coins?

Srinath,
Its a good idea to commemorate some renowned international figure rather than barely known Indian person.
However it might also open a Pandora's box as we are already burdened with too many coins..

Sanjay
