Here is one 19 san sikka rupee from Murshidabad mint. Is it 12 at the bottom on the reverse? And what is written on the left of the numerals?

This rupee is partly struck by machinery. The numerals '12' are part of the date, probably 1205, the date known for those partly machine struck coins.
The legend on these coins is the standard Shah Alam II couplet 'sayye fazle elah':
sikkah zad bar haft kishwar sayaye fazle elah
hami-e-din muhammad, shah alam badshah

(struck coin in the seven Climes, the shadow of the divine favour
the defender of the faith of Muhammad, the emperor Shah Alam)

What do you mean by "partly machie struck"?

Peter
An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Now I got it. It is not part of date but part of 'zad bar haft e kishwar'.

The blanks were traditionaly produced and milled on a coin press, without collar.

Thank you. I would have bet on the other way around, though. Tanka's coin shows all the signs of a traditional "hot strike" (sharp design elements with much relief) and the flan looks like it is of even thickness everywhere.
