There are 3-4 books available in the market:

1. Indian Coins (With rarity) (1835-2010) By Sripal Rathore
2. Indian Coinage (British India - Republic India) (1835-2010) by Sainath Redappa
3. Republic India Coinage (1947-2009) by Biju Phillips
4. Coins of India (1835-2012) by Dr. V.K. Gupta

Basically, all the books are identical, and it is enough to have any one of them.

In the recent past, since the number of collectors has increased considerably, some authors (or should I say Collectors/dealers) have found a good opportunity, and thereby a good fortune, by writing and selling these books at high prices.

This book is utter nonsense as a price guide, seasoned collectors will agree with me and new collectors should steer clear of this book as a price guide.
Another word of caution to beginners' : do not buy any coin as per rarity, buy what you get cheap and in UNC condition, any other condition will be regrettable in the near future.
#1.Work with at-least 5 to 6 dealers from different parts of India.
#2.Start with copper/bronze UNC.
#3.Follow Pridmore, Spink has launched Paul Stevens' book which will work even if you cannot find Pridmore. Delhi coin society has the book on it's ebay store for 3200. A pleasure to read.
#4.British Indian coins are never going to go rare, they may be rare to find and dealers may try to sell you coins in Fine or VF condition but they have no numismatic or collector value, they are just glorified souvenirs.
#5.Also, ngccoin.com has a coin census which will give you an idea about the rarity of a coin, if you think that 15 rupees in gold is a rare coin check this link:
http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/WorldBaseGrades.aspx?MajorCategory=WORLD+COINS&CatDesc=INDIA+-+BRITISH+COLONIAL&Denom=15R

#6.Most importantly, study coin grading before collecting.
#7. Learn how to use ebay.in, you will find the best dealers there.
Last, remember a full collection has 1000 coins, don't waste money on junk coins.
