The Rupee, 10.6 grams, seems obviously of the Cis-Sutlej States.   But which state does it belong?  In my old Standard Catalog, it appears to have the same design that was labeled "uncertain coinage" with date unknown, that was minted in the early 1900's. Is that as specific as we can be?

Its a coin of Maler Kotla. It's an issue of Nawab Ahmad Ali Khan (1908-1947). To the left is "Nawab" engraved, above it Ahmad and above Ahmad Ali Khan (Y#9). For the full die see the Nazarana rupee illustrated as Y#10 in the relevant KM-catalogue.

I hope that the following isn't an absurd question;
for the sake of alphabetical cataloging, would you favor labeling the coin "Cis-Sutlej States:  Maler Kolta" or "Maler Kota: a Cis Sutlej State"?
I notice that the Standard Catalog seems to try it both ways.  Perhaps the proper emphasis changed with time to reflect political realities.
My 31st edition World Coin catalog, 1901 - Present listed the coin under Cis Sutlej.
In Numismaster, I can only gain access to information about the coin under the title of Maler Kolta.

The British mostly described the State mostly as Maler Kotla, but nowadays it is generally written as Malerkotla. See: http://www.4dw.net/royalark/India/malerk.htm
For convenience sake the former Punjab States were grouped together under the heading of Cis-Sutlej States. The history, but especially the coinage of those states look much alike. I, therefore, would prefer to keep them as group together, but I also know that certain catalogues listed them purely in alphabetical order. It is just up to you.

From now on, free from intellectual and numismatic restraints, I shall catalog it as Cis-Sutlej States: Malerkolta.
And thank you for the link.  Though brief, the tale it told was quite heart warming!  Jaya Malerkolta! Jaya hai, jaya hai, jaya hai!
