Just completed my Rs 2 series [well almost, except for 2 notes, the first issue and RN Malothra Aryabhata B Inset]

The India Rs 2 is a frozen series, there are 36 notes in this series.
The most expensive note is the First issues signed by Benegal Rama Rau, with numeric value in Gujrati.
The others are fairly available.
In all there are 3 major designs;
- Tiger Face on the back initial 5-6 issues
- Standing Tiger on the back used for quite sometime almost till the end
- Satellite Aryabhata started from LK Jha. Both [this and Tiger] the designs were used till the printing was discontinued in 1997 with the last note being signed by C Rangrajan. He did not sign any notes with Standng Tiger.

There are 2 variations in all the designs as well.

I remember getting all the 36 notes, in almost UNC condition, a long time back, for about Rs. 3000.
The last 2 digits, of all the 36 notes are 50.

Lucky you ... number matching to 50 is great!!!
Looks like you got into this at the right time.
Today just the Gujrati note itself goes for way above 5K ...
So do you also have the complete set of Rs 5? That is my next target, I am missing nearly half of them ... have around 23 of the 43 ...

I have almost complete collection of 1 to 1000 notes, excepting some new 2011 and 2012 and some star notes.
I started my currency collection almost 25 years back.

Dear dheer
I have complete collection of notes in all denominations issued post independence.  Couple of notes in star verities is not in the collection and dealers are quoting excessively high rate. I have left hopes of getting them.
As per my collections there are 45 notes issued till 2011 in Rs 5 denomination. No notes of Rs 5 are issued so far in the current year . There should not be any problem for you to complete the collection in Rs 5 category as they are freely available.
You have very well described the notes issued so far in Rs 2 category. But what point your want to derive at?
Cheers

Wow!! Great. I am still missing around 170+ notes to complete my collection.
On the Rs 5, as per my list I have only 43, no notes in 2011 [or are there any?]. Maybe you can PM me the list so that I can cross verify.

Manik Jain's book Indian Paper Money 2012-13 lists 44 notes in 5 denominations. One note in 2011 with R inset is issued. The total works to 45 notes.
Cheers

A small correction on the design.............The tiger face on the back comes with two variants.......Rama Rao and Iyerngar notes with Tiger Bust facing Left and Bhattachrya notes (Brown & Green) with Tiger Bust facing Right

dheer

Yes akhedia,
I was thinking of classifying it as Variation, but on closer look, this needs to be classified as a major design.
Also there is the special Gandhi Issue

The Satellite comes without the Satyameo below the ashoka emblem in the initial design and comes with Satyameo in the later designs; and can be treated as variation.
