Victor Emanuel III collected Roman coins. That's why so many of his pre-war coins have classical themes. There are two signs of his hobby on this coin. First, there is the anachronistic use of the V for a U in his name. Second, the bee is an important figure in Greco-Roman mythology.

VE was the last, but not the most stupid member of the house of Savoy, though he did try. Fortunately, his collection was preserved.
