Today I received 2 very strange dimes. They appear copper at first. (Hahahaha! yes, I know there are no red dimes in the US.) I thought they looked strange. Maybe these two coins where submerged in some kind of oxidizing agent? Opinions, as a resident of the US I have seen dimes in all conditions but never quite like this. I'm sure someone will recognize the elements used to create this pieces.

BTW I am posting the 1965 the other one in question is 1971

I would guess they sat underwater in a fountain for quite a while.
But that is all it is, a guess.

That very well may be true. I kinda like luck as a theme.

Actually, pending a better theory, I think a fountain source is a reasonable guess.  I have seen coins like that in fountains and a couple I threw in my aquarium looked like that.  The Aquarium actually totally ate the zince cents though...I am sure that wasn't so lucky for the fish.
