I look in the K&M catalog for French 1947 10-Franc coins and I see
KM 908.1
KM 908.2
KM 909.2
KM 909.1

For 1948 I see
KM 909.2
KM 909.1

The catalog says every one of them weighs 10.0000g.

I have a 1947 that weighs 7.08g
The 1948 weighs 6.93g

Neither is worn much to speak of.

So are these fakes (they look really good) or what am I missing?

The silver version (1929-1939) is 10 grams. The cu-ni version (large head 1945-1947 and small head 1947-1949) are 7 grams. The difference between large and small heads is best seen between the bonnet and the rim of the coin. On the large head, the space is about half the height of the letters of the legend. On the small head the space is almost the same as the height of the letters. Your coins are both small head.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I was using an older K&M....it didn't have those as far as I could see.  I am looking at a newer edition now and they are in this one.  Thanks!

PS That older edition is the 2003...I have found it to be full of errors...much more so than normal.  It is taking up space and I think I will trash it.  I have checked...it costs too much to mail overseas (about $40) and I don't know anyone that wants it here.
