The seam you point out is visible on all the illustrations I have. I think is was because the collar was open, i.e. the inscription was not rolled in, but struck at the same time as the coin. The collar looked like a ring, but was cut through, for removal after striking. The striking process opened the collar slightly and produced the seam.

It is true that the letters seem too close to the edge, but that may be the angle and the light.

I repeat - the site of the Royal Mint shows extremely rough fake - a thin metal strip with letters and symbols attached to the base by soldering.
