Here is a Nigeria 1962 1 Shilling trial strike KM TS1.  I've had this in my collection for many years.  Notice that an inverted 'J' is used for the 'T' in TRIAL. Odd! Any information on this coin and about trail strikes would be much appreciated.

I would think that the "TRIAL" is stamped/punched onto the die for the obverse and again onto the die for the reverse and with the stamp/punch having the whole word "TRIAL" on it. So if the group of letters "TRIAL" are not punched evenly onto one of the dies then one end of "TRIAL" could be weak as here.... and one small bit at the end of "TRIAL" is missing. I have seen these offered before - not very often though.... Find a few images of other pieces and likely another piece will be like the one you have - if only the image is sufficently clear.

Thanks Mr Paul Baker

Paul - thanks for the info.  I looked at the higher res image and noticed that the "TRIAL" stamped on the obv has a weak T but it's clearly a T. The one on the rev looks like a J but as may be due to a weak strike.
