What a wonderful idea, go IG mint go we are with you..Its high time you mint some neat looking coins.

You need not show the date of establishment of the state on the coin...just one popular monument from that particular state (for example Taj Mahal from UP, Ajintha caves from Maharashtra etc)..

BTW I had given the same idea long time ago. ;D But nothing is going to happen, we will never see anything like this on our coins... :(

I am aslo sure that they r not going to do like that. They just issue coins on centanary & 50 years of..., 60 years of... :(
But suppose if it happens, just imagine we can add 35 new coins to our collection. :D

At least parliament the  monument has been repeated since long on the republic India coins and latest monument  was KOL mint coin.

It is enough for designers to show and bureaucrats to approve.

Cheers ;D

I think, the new commemorative coin of Rs 5 is Indias 3rd coin on parliment theme.
1) Rs 1 of 1991.
2) Rs 5 of 2009.
3) Rs 5 of 2012.

Sorry Mr Chandrashekhar,

This is the seventh coin with the motif of Parliament. Other six are :

1972: 25 years of Independence
1991: Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference
1993: 89 Interparliamentary Union Conference
1997: Interparliamentary Conference
2009: 60 Years of Commonwealth
50 Paisa definitive

Einstein

Oh! i made mistake! :o
Thanx for correcting me. :)

Dear Bimat

Earlier GOI used to issue 1 commemorative coin in one year. Now they have increased it to 4-5. This is causing drain on my resources. I am fidning it increasingly difficult to book all the coin sets.

If state coins are issued in five circulatory denomination (50P, 1Re, 2Rs, 5Rs, 10Rs) by the four mints (Noida, Hyd, Kol, Mum) for each of the 35 States & UTs, we will have 35 x 5 x 4 = 700 types. You can then safely add few hundred die varieties and lion varieties. It will cause massive headache for collectors.

I personally feel that blindly aping US may not be the right strategy. If my info is correct in the US itself millions of US Presidential Dollars are rotting as there are no takers.

Bravo Sanjay , nicely put ! We've all discussed it to near death before. But with the current state of things, such proposals if implemented worsen an already bad situation

I never that release all the 35 coins in one year..4 coins in one year (in only one denomination, why 4?) from one or two mints is fine...

Anyway that was just an idea. We all know that our government is not going to do anything like this so be happy. ;D

The quote about presidential dollars rotting is correct but this kind of situation will not happen in India since the demand is much greater than supply. There are no takers for dollar coins in the US and that is the reason for this surplus.

I personally would not like collector's version of such coins being issued since it will be a big drain on the pocket, but do not mind all these different types in circulation. They obviously will release them only in batches and should be fun for a new or even average collector to be looking out for these.

Unfortunately these themes will never be depicted since none of the political parties will get any mileage out of it. >:(

Mackie

I don't know why we only talk about proof sets here, is coin collecting only about collecting high priced proof sets?  ???
Warm Regards,
Mackie
