The San Francisco Mint is striking all five 2012 America the Beautiful quarter dollars in circulation-quality with the S Mint mark for numismatic sales in 100-coin bags and 40-coin rolls later in the year.

What is interesting is these quarters are not in the 2012 Uncirculated Coin set.

Also odd that they doing this in the middle of the series just like they did with Satin Finish coins a few years ago.

Just to drive everyone nuts and make them want to ignore the middle of the series entry thing. I'm not interested in non-circulating coins, which is good.

The US Mint will start selling them, in those bags and rolls, as from Thursday (21 June):

Roll (40 coins) $18.95 http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=16810&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10111

Bag (100 coins) $34.95 http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=16742&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10111

Won't buy those, but I cannot really imagine that all the people who buy those bags and rolls do that for the sole purpose of hoarding them. :) So even though these "circulation quality S quarters" are not made for circulation, they may show up in circulation more frequently than proof pieces ...

The bag price is on par with what they sell the P or D bags for.

But rolls are a bit more expensive.  A set of the P and D rolls (80 coins - 40 from each mint) is sold for 32.95.

That will be something interesting to watch to see if in a few months some start showing up.

Is it safe to assume they will not be in the Mint Sets?

Correct. they are not in the P/D US Mint Sets.

So for each of Park Quarters, there will be:

Circulation Strikes:
P. D. and S - all Clad

Proof Strikes:
Clad S and Silver S

Then there is always, the P mint marked 5 ounce silver uncirculated coin as well.

Confused?  Don't worry, we are too since they started with the clad S circulation strikes in the middle of the series.

I usually get a clad mint set. I would like to get the non-circulating, circulation-style "S" quarters but I am not interested in going to much effort and not a lot of expense for them.  I will just have to watch and see what the online dealers ask for them.

Did I write that I won't buy them? Ahem, ignore that. Somebody here in DE just ordered a bag (he does that with other issues too). Later this year I'll get all those quarters and $1 coins ... Will probably keep the best ones and spend the others next year. :)

Ta-daa. 8) For a variety of reasons it took a little longer; so what. That "pack" of US 2012 coins includes the Presidential Dollars (D and P each), the Native American Dollar (2xD, 2xP), and the ATB Quarters. The latter in D, P, and S ...
