Hello..

I have a Liseberg token that does not have a denomination, but has "VALORPOLLETT,'   C.C. Sporrong & Co., and Stockholm, on one side, and  'Liseberg' on the other. I have been unable to find any info on it online, but do know that a 'danspollett' is a dance token..

Thanks so much!

Slot machine token. Click here for more info on Liseberg. Sporrong is a Swedish manufacturer of medals, insignias, buttons and other small metal items.

Thanks for the info., and for moving the post to the proper place..

I am wondering why there are none posted or mentioned online.. I have not been able to find any photos or mention of them.

Also, do you know what 'Valorpollett' means?      Thanks!

Figleaf

Pollett is token in Swedish. Not sure what valor is, maybe something akin to value (värde). Fosseway is bound to know. These tokens are not much collected, which may explain a scarcity of internet hits. We have some knowledgeable collectors of gaming tokens on board here, though.

Have a look at  my tokens and my banknotes.

Yes.. I saw that when I was searching for info. That is what brought me to this site.. :-)

My token is solid and says 'VALORPOLLET'  on it...     When I did not see any online or even any reference to it, I thought it must be rare and valuable..  ;D

Thank to you all for your help.. I am sorting through a bag of old non-U.S. coins that was given to me over ten years ago.. My oldest are 1890 and 1895 canadian pennies..  I also have found quite a few swedish coins with .40 silver..    I am really enjoying researching and reading all the history ..

Despite Figleaf's assurance upthread that I would be on the case, it's only now that I've come across this thread, so apologies for the late response.

Valör (with an ö) has been appropriated into Swedish to mean a few specific sub-meanings of the original French from which it is borrowed, valeur. Specifically in the numismatic context it means 'denomination'. So I guess 'valörpollett' means 'token with a value/denomination'. It may well be that Liseberg learnt from an earlier mistake, where they had to erase a numerical denomination on their tokens when prices rose, and later produced tokens that said they had value, but did not specify how much in kronor and öre.

As to the 'danspollett' -- I suspect that this will have been connected to concerts and light entertainment held at Liseberg, such as the series of open-air singalong concerts held every summer called Lotta på Liseberg (Gothenburg's answer to Allsång på Skansen in Stockholm). Essentially at Liseberg you can do four things - go on rollercoasters and similar rides, play fairground games like coconut shies, 10-pin bowling, shooting cowboys etc., attend a concert, or just wander round the booths and buy stuff. For the first two, you need to pay extra, hence the tokens. Lotta på Liseberg is free (other than the general entrance charge) but similar events in the past may have attracted a charge, hence the danspollett token.
