Sunday 13 April

The Missing Penny, 2.45-3.00pm (GMT)
Only a handful of pennies were minted in 1933 and at least one remains unaccounted for. Such a discovery would be worth thousands of pounds. Phil Mussell sets about tracking it down.

I know John Mussell is editor of COIN News, and Phil is somewhere on the staff as I recall :-)

Martin,
The correct figure for the British 1933 1d. is 7.There was one that was put inside a foundation stone of a building that was built at that time,& was demolished a fair few years back.I can't remember where in England this was.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the British Museum in London has one in their collection.I do know that they have got the Irish 1938 pattern 1d. & pattern 2/6,which are also coins with stories of their own,in their collection.

Yup.

The text in the original msg (down to the URL) came from the Radio 4 website promoting the broadcast.  The msg is also nearly five months old :-)

I think the coin placed in the foundation stone of Kirkstall Parish Church near Leeds in Yorkshire was the one that was stolen, but I may be wrong.

That would be a hard one to fence :D

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
