Dear Friends

The first session of our Parliament was held on 13 May 1952. This year will mark 60 years of the first session of Parliament. A special sitting of the Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha will be held on 13 May 2012. The President will release coins of Rs5 & Rs 10 denominations. These coins will commemorate a specific events but they will be of definitive in nature. These coins will be available freely.

Do you mean these are not collector coins? (i.e. these two coins will be available for face value and not only in sets)...

These would be commemorative coins but for general circulation...........Pls find the news below ;

"The evening of May 13 would see a special ceremony in the Central Hall of Parliament where the President will release Rs 10 denomination commemorative coin for general circulation. The coin is expected to bear the overwhelming image of the Parliament of India."

Bimat

I can't imagine how much more overwhelming the motif of the parliament building can be compared to what we already have on the 60 yrs of the commonwealth coin...in any case, i guess after a gap of 8 yrs from the issue of Dadabhoy Nowrojee, will we have a new commemorative without a corresponding Mint set (thank God!).

kansal888

The coins will be definitive in nature. But they can also be issued by the mints in special packing.

For example the five coins with the new Rupee Symbol were definitive but the Mumbai mint later issued them in a special packing.

By mint set, I meant the polish, not the packaging

The motif of Parliament has been used numerous times. I can recall at least five instances:
1972: 25 years of Independence
1991: Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference
1993: 89 Interparliamentary Union Conference
1997: Interparliamentary Conference
2009: 60 Years of Commonwealth

Mackie

Excellent news. As a collector would love to see more 10 rs coins for general public. The collectors only editions are overly high priced and out of reach of amateur collectors like me.  ;D
Warm Regards,

Kansal Ji,

Press release is saying commemorative you are saying definitive.

Kansal Ji,

The coins will be commemorative in nature as they will be issued to commemorate a certain event. However like some earlier commemoratives likes Rajiv Gandhi, Bio Diversity, Small Family, Girl Child, Ambedkar etc mints may not issue Proof & Unc sets.
A pack of two circulation coins is not ruled out
