Guernsey coins celebrate Queen's Diamond Jubilee

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee is being celebrated with a special issue of Guernsey coins, struck by the Royal Mint and approved by Buckingham Palace.

The four limited edition 50p coins feature images from the Queen's 60-year reign.

They include Cecil Beaton's official coronation portrait from 1953 and an image taken on a visit to the University of Cambridge in April 2011.

Each coin has a diamond shaped edge and is plated in 24 carat gold.

Produced by the Westminster Collection from designs approved by the island's Treasury and Resources Department, each weighs 27g (1oz) and has a diameter of 38.61mm (1.5in).

I don't know, that's what BBC has quoted, not me. :)

Anyway, whoever may be the producer of these coins, they are still ugly. ;)
