1858-W East India Company Quarter Anna KM# 463.1. The coin is a common one but finding one in this condition is little difficult. This coin has ample red with swirling mint luster. The coin does have a few dark spots but is beautiful in hand. Let me know what you think about it.
As always share pictures if you have one.

Thanks

From over 100's of coins, I picked the best 10 and sent them in for grading. And none of the 10 1858 1/4 annas made a 65, the best they made was 64 RD. So finding a 65 is really hard! Good one! :)
My goal for 2017 is to finish finish my British India copper collection (1/4 anna, 1/2 Pice and 1/12 anna) by year and Mintmark. Any help with missing coins in BU grades is highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot guys.
Abhishek, the 1957 one is the harder one to find comparatively even though all of these are considered to be common. This particular one is the single leaf tip variety.

Thanks. Agreed. I have seen a lot of 64's but find a decent looking gem has been difficult. This coin is virtually mark free and would have graded higher for the presence of the few dark spots.

Very nice coin Bushan!  From what I know,  these coins, i.e the 1857 and 1858 1/4 Anna coin was produced in England by contractors (Soho mint and  Birmingham mint) as the Indian mints were unable to keep up with the huge demand of 1/4 Anna coins during this time.  They come in two variety (Wreath tips have single leaves and double leaves), yours is the single leaves variety.  Also, these were the last 1/4 Anna coinage bearing the East India Co. name.

1857-58 were  turbulent years in India and historically very significant. These coins were minted right up to 1862 after which the design changed to the 1862 Queen Victoria design.

Gems, I would imagine,  are hard to find. The highest grade NGC has assigned to this variety is MS65 (you have the top grade) only 6 out of 60 coins are graded MS65 (so far).  Here is mine, certainly not a GEM but I think its a Choice Unc   (RB 80% red).

Harry, thanks a lot for adding some great information on the coin. These coins are pretty common and I would not heed the grade too much as long as the coin is attractive. I would buy a nice clean MS64 with no spots and nice red-brown color in a heart beat if offered at the right price.
Your coin definitely looks great and if not for a few dings on the edge it would definitely grade better.

Here is the reverse of the same. Yes, this is mine. I like it better than my 1858 examples even though they are more cleaner and red than this one.  ;D
