Dear Friends

You must be aware that Alipore Mint (Kolkata) was established in 1952. This year, it is celebrating its 60th Anniversary.

There are some indications that mint might gift herself a brand new coin dedicated to herself. The denominations could be Rs 5 & Rs 60.

As far as I am aware, Kolkata mint was established 250 years back in 1757. In the year 1952, it was merely shifted to new premises at Alipore. The Alipore Mint was opened by the Honorable Finance Minister of Government of India Shree C. D. Deshmukh on the 19 March 1952. The full operation for the coinage and preparation of medals, decorations and badges started in Alipore Mint from this date.

I think it would be more appropriate if the mint had released 250th Anniversary coin in 2007.

My father served in defense services; so we changed cities every few years..I never knew that shifting to new premises called for such a huge celebration...

I agree with The Oracle. They should have issued the coin in 2007 on mint's 250th Anniversary. They missed the bus then. They are finding excuses to issue new coins..

Who knows if the (baa baa black sheep) of Kolkata mint have already issued
three bags full (yes sir yes sir three bags full)
of Bhagat Singh coins and transferred them directly to the custody of
some coin dealer (who lives down the kolkata lane).
;D  ;D  ;D

Our friend could keep them hidden in his vault till 2020.  ;) ;) ;)
In 2021, our friend can sell each coin for Rs 2.0 lacs

(same thing happened in Land Vital Resource)

You may refer Gullak's latest issue of March 2012 , A brief report with image of Kolkatta mint (medal/coin) shown there.

No official notice from Mint so far.

The picture shown there is actually a medal issued long back. Not saying that the same design could be used for the coin too.  :)
