I would be interested if some share relevant record from pridmore that can be reference to comment further.

Any one having that section of B.I PRIDMORE can  share that more systematic illustrations .

Cheers ;D

Following is the three types of reverse of 1862. First one is type I, second one is type II and the third one is type III. Please compare the lotus of the three coins to understand the difference of them.

Islam - A dealer, Randy Weir,  in the New York coin show (early Jan 2012), showed me a 1862 Rupee with a rev of type III.  He told me that Rev of type III are rare.  He is co-authoring a book on Indian coins and has been dealing with Indian coins for the past 20 years.

He currently has two coins of 1862 Rupee type III rev (Pr 60 and Pr 65) both are VF. He is selling the Pr 60 for $400 and Pr 65 for $450!

Now for the fun part -- how much did you get your 1862 Rupee rev type III for?   :D

Thanks Harry for posting a dealer's opinion and that is really helpful to get idea about the coins rarity. Though 'Rarity' to the dealers has a different meaning and purpose.

For your fun part, I collect coins at semi root level, that is before they reach to specialist coin dealers. My sellers don't know which one is common and which one is rare. They know them as silver rupees and has a common price $18 equivalent.
