Dear Colleagues,

I would be very grateful for your opinions regarding the coin. This seems to be Murshidabad mint rupee. I got this coin from a very reliable seller but the design looks a bit strange for me, there are no shroff marks and the coin looks like silvered (some copper alloy looks through the worn details). I am a relative beginner in Indian numismatics so I cannot make judgment myself.
Thank you.

I know it will be difficult but the weight would be nice.

Looks like silver tarnish by the picture but the weight is a key factor

I understand that weight is critical but unfortunately I do not have any accurate means of measuring it (hope I will get scales in a couple of weeks when it will finally be delivered to me). I hoped that design might also give a clue as for the coin.
There is one strange detail apart from the calligraphy - I circled it on the picture attached. I cannot find anything similar neither on Zeno nor in Krause catalogue (yes I know it is a shame to use such a generic reference but in my country the books on Indian numismatics are exceptionally rare). What could these dots mean?
Thank you.

This coin unfortunately is a fake or a token jewellery usually made of the murshidabad rupee. There are a lot of things on this coin that looks totally out of place. For an original coin refer to this thread http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,12694.0.html

Dear Sir,

Thank you for sharing your opinion. Could you possibly specify at least some of the discrepancies? Hope I could use these in negotiating with the seller.

This coin is no-doubt a jewelers imitation of a Murshidabad 19-san rupee.
These jewelers imitation has earlier been subject to lengthy discussions on this site as well, see http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,1601.0.html Attached, for comparison and your perusal, a Murshidabad rupee Pr.157, 1793 issue.

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you very much for your responses. I will update the thread with this coin imitation's weight once I get an opportunity to weight it.

escapist

The weight of the imitation is 11,6 g which is correct according to the Krause catalog (perhaps the diameter is wrong then as it is silvered). However there are numerous discrepancies in design (circled on the picture below). It looks like rosettes were put almost randomly. There are also several misspellings.

Thank you for the responses again.

yes, as pointed out earlier this is a jeweller imitation of the 19 san sikka.. and such tokens are common in bengal.
here is a genuine 19 san sikka of murshidabad mint

The coin is a 'Murshidabad' rupee, but actually struck at the Calcutta mint.
The same applies to the coin illustrated with reply #5, which is also a 'Murshidabad' rupee, but struck at Calcutta.
