Pah, just go back a few more years ... to Theoderic the Great for example. ;D This is the Senigallia Medallion from around 500 (a copy was made in the early 20c for king Vittorio Emanuele; not sure which piece this image shows). Anyway, here "Theoderic is portrayed with his hair cropped short in the front and long hair to the back. The style is evocative of the modern-day mullet." http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3686/is_3_45/ai_n57439729/pg_12/

Charles II, king of Spain and South America, archduke of Austria, duke of Burgundy and Brabant, count of Flanders etc. Ducaton 1687, minted in Brussels. He was quite mad, due to generations of Habsburg inbreeding.

He does not wear a whig. He didn't have his hair cut, possibly because nobody bothered to do it. His prime minister is said to have remarked, passing his slumped body in corridor: "couldn't someone wash his hair once in a while?"

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
