Thank you Peter.  The puzzle is:
Is this a french slot machine token?
Or is it a discount token?
Or is it a slot machine token advertising another business?
I have over two hundred 'machine a sous' pieces but I haven't seen one advertising a business not related to slot machines. Perhaps Noel's had their own machines on the premises?  I also have quite a few with just initials which I assumed were for slot machines.  I'm confused.  ???

It is a slot machine token. I would suggest it was used in a machine located in a pub or wine saloon that sold that particular wine.

Or maybe they even owned the place where it was used?

The machine provider or travelling salesman would have a book of sample designs that you could have for your tokens [cheaper than having a design made] or you could use your name or initials whatever you preferred.

Just speculating here, but Boulogne s/s, with its large crowds of blue-collar workers, seems like the perfect place for a bar à vin, a very French place of friendship, handshakes, mediocre food and wine served by the glass. An enterprising bar owner could sell these in packages of 12 or so for FF 3.00 and sell a glass of wine for 30 centimes or one token. Workers would buy them at pay day, before their wives could impound the money. ;)

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
