A cashier in a Cologne supermarket has come across an interesting variety of a €1 coin. The usual German pieces (and this is, or was, apparently one, judging from the background pattern of the ring) show the eagle. Well, this one shows Hennes. :)

Hennes is a male goat that has been the mascot of the football club "1. FC Köln" for more than 50 years. He even has his own German Wikipedia page:ßbock_Hennes The current one is Hennes VIII by the way.

The coin, or ex-coin, shows the same logo. Nobody knows who "carved" this piece. The newspaper "Express" which had the story (and the photo shown below) asked the football club - which loves it - and the police which says that altering coins is of course not forbidden but releasing altered pieces into circulation could be a problem. Spoilsports. ;)

It seems to well done to have been done by hand. I am thinking of a salesman demonstrating a machine...

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
