I have seen tons of uncirculated 1889 1/4 annas minted at Calcutta but hardly nothing minted in (B). Does anyone have a 1889(B) 1/4 Anna?

The difference between the two is (B) has no leaf directly below the date and has a leaf below the beginning and a leaf below the end of the year. (C) has one below the date and one below the beginning and one below the end of the year.
My goal for 2017 is to finish finish my British India copper collection (1/4 anna, 1/2 Pice and 1/12 anna) by year and Mintmark. Any help with missing coins in BU grades is highly appreciated.

Hey @brokencompass,

Thanks for the explanation, it's very informative. Here is an example of my 1889C 1/4 Anna, not exactly what you want, but illustrates your point about identifying the mints. I've highlighted the leaves using red squares.

Do you have a picture of a B?

Thanks for the picture! It speaks better than my bad attempt at trying to explain it. I unfortunately can't find any pictures of a 1889 (B) in higher grade.

Thanks Harry for your nice informative posts. Do you mean that we have to differentiate mints by looking at the leaves direction? Or there are some more matters to see.

I can't take credit for this, I'm just expanding on @brokencompass post. Yes it seems like the location of the leaves is used to identify the mint. The key to look for is that Bombay mint will have NO leaf directly under the year while Calcutta mint has a leaf directly under the year. Maybe @brokencompass can confirm or elaborate on this.

Spot on Harry! That's correct. For 1889 (B) there should be no leaf directly below the middle of the year(1889).
