New Commemorative Issue: 2012: Swami Vivekananda

Dear Friends

GOI will shortly issue commemorative coins on 150 years of Swami Vivekananda. He was borne in 1863. He was the founder of Ramakrishna Mission. He was disciple of Ramkrishna Paramhansa. He introduced Vedanta & Yoga to western world. He attended the Parliament of World Religions which was held in Chicago in 1893 and gave his famous speech.

Vivekananda was born in the 1863.
Therefore on 12 Jan 12, it was his 149th Anniversary.
In India, mostly the coins celebrating centenary are issued on 101 anniversary and coins celebrating 150 years are released on 151 anniversary.
Therefore technically Vivekananda coins can be issued anytime between 12 Jan 12 to 12 Jan 14

GOI will release the commemorative coins on Swami Vivekananda on 12 January 2013. These were eagerly awaited  since last one year. Vivekananda will be the first issue of  2013.

Got a phone call from Rashtrapati Bhawan. They have invited me for tomorrow's coin release function at RB.
The coin will be released by the Hon'ble President of India.
Mrs Gandhi, Sh Chidambaram, Sh Sibbal & Sh AK Antony will also be present.
