Here is a 1939 one rupee forgery:

It is 11.31 grams, silvery material, and -- obviously -- a cast forgery

Convincingly a fake. And the outline on 9 (last one) is a symptom of cast coin. Is it a contemporary or modern?

Islam

Shastri JC Philip

Islam, it is a modern forgery made somewhere around Mysore.

In addition to the figure of 9, I suggest you to check the rim of the coin for very crude filing marks which the faker did not try to hide. In other words, a sucker is born a minute and coins are getting sold with clear/obvious signs that it is a fake  -- Shastri

Another fake 1939 Rupee listed on Ebay. Looks like copper 1 rupee to me. And note that George V was born again to issue this coin in 1939. ;D ;D ;D

It is a stupid fake and either some ignorant people will bid upon it, or a Fake-chaser like me would -- Shastri

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Shastri JC Philip

Peter, your are right. That is why I said either ignorant people or people like me only will bid on it. The present bid is for a value around $1. Not a bad price to snatch a fake for one's collection and study -- Shastri

I would call it a dummy. But one may call it a fake as the manufacturer did not inscribe anywhere as a copy or dummy.

The seller promises to remove it when he is convinced that it is a fake. Let's see if I have done that.

Unfortunately still the seller is not convinced that the coin is a fake. And now 8 bids low for a genuine and high for a fake.
