Ireland 2012: 10 Jack B. Yeats
« on: January 10, 2012, 01:40:54 AM »
This month the Central Bank of Ireland issues its first 2012 collector coin. It honors the artist Jack Butler Yeats who died 55 years ago. But maybe this piece is not really about an anniversary anyway - it is part of the Euro Star program which this year is about European artists.

The design shows a portrait of Yeats (by the way, William Butler Yeats was his brother) next to a small sketch of a horse. The other side shows the harp, country name and year as usual. This is a proof-only collector piece; 46 if you buy it from the central bank, mintage 12,000 max. It was designed by Michael Guilfoyle and minted by the KNM (Royal Dutch Mint) in Utrecht.
