Hello, all.

Still finishing up the collection I am selling on E-Bay for a friend and I would again appreciate some advice, with thanks. Last night I was examing 2 U.S. 2 cent pieces for listing. One is an 1864 2 cent piece, heavily worn, with a rotated die...about 335% more or less. This is not uncommon but it is interesting. The best find of the evening was a very sharp, VF or better (I use ANA grading guide) described as the motto "Significantly recut". It took a microscope to see it, but WOW...the IN GOD WE TRUST is hugely "recut"...or is it a doubled die (date not effected). Well...in my research I have found it going under both titles. Anyway, I can't get an image that shows the doubling on this coin, but the picture in the site below is a beautiful example of the coin (not the one here). If you click on the "double Die details you will see why this is such an interesting find. (Thanks to PCGS Coin Facts!) Well sadly, it doesn't belong to me but I do not know how to value it for sale on E-Bay. In "Getting your Two cents Worth" by Kevin Flynn, this is KF1-DDO and there is no reverse rotation. It is described as "Very rare". Does anyone have any sales stats on this so I can try to get fair value for the owner?

Many thanks. Alan

If it is described as very rare in publications perhaps I would look to Heritage Auctions for some advice as it is an American coin.

I used to work for Heritage as a "remote cataloger". what fun THAT was!!!! I was just a temp...and spent my salary on coins that I got a decent discount on.

I didn't even think of checking their archives. I'm off to do that now...and check my 1868 2 cent piece for a variety.

Alan

Thanks akona20!
